PhD Programme in Linguistics

Students may apply for the PhD programme if they have:

• obtained a Master's degree in a single or double major programme. The single major programme must be in linguistics, and in case of a double major programme, one of the majors must be in linguistics (e.g. English Language and Literature and History)
• the required GPA of relevant (linguistic) courses is 4.2
• If the students have a Master’s degree in two languages (e.g. Croatian and English), they can choose the GPA that gives them a better opportunity for enrolment
• the letters of recommendation from two professors in the field of Linguistics.

PhD (research field: Humanities, research discipline: Philology, research branch: General Linguistics)

• Implementation of professional and specialized linguistic knowledge in research
• Understanding and application of general linguistic norms (directed towards the Croatian, English and German language)
• Creating, organising, and implementing linguistic research and projects in the eastern part of Croatia

• On completion of the PhD programme, the PhD holders can continue their research work in the academic institutions that conduct research in the scientific field of Linguistics
• Possibility of postdoctoral education and employment opportunities in the public and private sectors
• Possibility and necessity of establishing the Institute of Linguistics at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, or at the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, and cooperation with business and industry (translating, interpreting, etc.) in Osijek
