Admission requirements:

  • Completed BA programme and grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.50
  • Students may enrol the programme if have completed any other Bachelor level study programme at a Faculty or University of Osijek, or at any other faculty, provided they pass the differential exams in the following courses:
  1. Language Theory
  2. Fundamentals of Language Culture
  3. Croatian Language History
  4. Croatian Morphology and Syntax
  5. Old Croatian Literature I
  6. Contemporary Croatian Literature II
  7. World Literature II
  8. Children’s Literature
  9. Literary Theory

Competencies acquired upon completion of studies (learning outcomes):

Knowledge and understanding

  • complement and understand the knowledge acquired at the undergraduate level in the field of Croatian studies, linguistics, literary science and research methodology;
  • complement and understand the cultural knowledge in the field of humanities and related disciplines;
  • understand the fundamental theoretical and practical knowledge of psychological and education sciences (pedagogy and didactics);
  • understand the fundamental and practical knowledge related to the teaching methods for Croatian language and literature classes based on the contemporary knowledge on learning which derives from the results of interdisciplinary scientific research (in linguistics, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics and pedagogy);
  • understand the knowledge of linguistic, literary and teaching methodology contents by selecting elective courses according to their own interests

Application of knowledge and understanding

  • independently teach Croatian language and literature classes in elementary and secondary schools;
  • combine the theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the selection and application of teaching methods;
  • coordinate, connect and combine the knowledge and skills acquired in the other studies (second major) with those acquired in the Croatian language and literature studies;
  • apply the acquired knowledge and skills in editing jobs at Croatian Studies departments abroad;
  • apply an interdisciplinary approach to the philological disciplines;
  • apply the acquired knowledge and skills in pursuing a career in the media, publishing, cultural and scientific institutions, as well as a career in a broader scope of cultural, social and public services;
  • apply the acquired knowledge and skills in the professional examination

  • reach own judgments and conclusions;
  • develop new teaching methods

Presentational skills

  • apply the acquired knowledge and skills in creative teaching processes that will encourage students to think and reason independently;
  • communicate effectively with peers at professional seminars in order to improve the knowledge and skills and to enhance the quality of work;
  • promote literary and linguistic knowledge by instruction and training of foreign students of Croatian studies at Croatian Studies departments abroad

Learning skills

  • develop learning skills essential for lifelong learning;
  • keep up-to-date on professional literature in Croatian (and foreign languages);
  • continue to improve their knowledge and skills autonomously in order to meet the needs of students and new work programmes;
  • apply the acquired knowledge and skills in continuing their education in postgraduate studies in humanities
