Admission requirements:

To qualify for admission to the undergraduate program, students need to have completed general secondary school education or secondary education in economics or trade and have to have passed State Secondary School Leaving Examination

Qualification awarded:

Upon completion of the BA programme, the graduates are awarded the title of Bachelor (baccalaureus/baccalaurea) in Information Science

Competencies acquired upon completion of studies (learning outcomes):

  • identify and explain the basic features of information science;
  • describe the structure of production, organization and distribution of knowledge;
  • recognize the different types of information and features of unit structure and  organize bibliographic cataloguing information;
  • describe and analyze complex concepts and categories of descriptive cataloguing and bibliographic organization and control;
  • explain the role of heritage and heritage institutions in the development of the information society;
  • define the basic terms and concepts in the field of information and heritage activities (information, heritage, information infrastructure, information policy, etc.) and learn about the basic features of library and information infrastructure in Croatia;
  • define basic principles and characteristics of information activities in relation to the information and communication science field;
  • identify and explain functions of basic information institutions and their role in modern society, with special emphasis on issues of professional ethics;
  • manage the preservation of items in information institutions;
  • describe the basic principles of modern publishing and bookselling;
  • identify the main characteristics of the basic publishing products and genres;
  • shape, manage and evaluate complex text and numeric databases;
  • organize small digital collections and the modalities of searching and maintenance;
  • create web sites and interfaces;
  • prepare small-scale publishing projects;
  • apply marketing principles and concepts

 

  • analyze the impact of ICT on economic and social developments on macro and micro level;
  • analyze historical development of a culture that is based on oral and written communication;
  • analyze and critically evaluate the role and tasks of information professionals;
  • analyze and define principles of professional ethics, legislation and standards to be applied

 

  • analyze, select and present knowledge and information
  • analyze the independent user community and its needs, and manage library holdings (selection, distribution of sources, electronic sources and license agreements, the evaluation of the holdings, ethical aspects, etc.)
  • analyze contemporary publishing trends, such as the internationalization of publishing, corporate sales, globalization, etc.
  • apply skills of evaluation and preparation of projects in the field of information science

Employment oportunities:

On completion of the BSc programme in Information Science the students will have acquired the competences required for provision of information and design of services in libraries and related information institutions/services such as working with customers, working with information in the educational processes , the study of information needs and the use of information, as well as for the production and design of information products in the information institutions/services, and for the production and dissemination of information in publishing and bookselling .
